Banned Golfer Slams Scottie Scheffler Over LIV ‘False Narrative’

Hudson Swafford Fires Back at Scottie Scheffler’s PGA-LIV remarks

It’s been over four years since LIV Golf disrupted the landscape of professional golf. And the friction with the PGA Tour still hasn’t eased. With talks of a potential unification deal once again stalled, golf fans remain stuck with a divided field — except during the majors, where the sport’s top stars still come together.

While the PGA Tour has often blamed LIV for the ongoing split, one former PGA Tour pro isn’t having it. And he’s directing criticism straight at world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

Hudson Swafford Pushes Back on Scheffler’s LIV Take

Hudson Swafford, who joined LIV in 2022 and is banned from PGA Tour events until 2027, disagrees with Scheffler’s recent comments suggesting the media should be asking LIV players why the divide exists.

“I’ve heard Scottie say that a couple of times now, that the media should go ask LIV guys why there’s a split,” Swafford said. “But I’ll be honest, the overwhelming sentiment among LIV players is that we’d love to play PGA Tour events again.”

Swafford noted that players like James Piot, who received a sponsor exemption at this year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, prove that LIV players are still interested in PGA Tour opportunities.

“I would love to go back and play [The American Express]. I’ve won it twice. There are plenty of events I’d still try to play if I could,” Swafford added. “But it’s not up to us. The narrative that LIV guys don’t care about the PGA Tour? It’s just not true.”

Lucas Glover Strongly Opposes Comebacks

Not everyone on the PGA Tour shares that sentiment. Lucas Glover, the 2009 U.S. Open champion, believes players who left for LIV shouldn’t be allowed to return.

“I don’t want to play with them, personally. I don’t want them back here,” Glover stated. “They chose another path, one of less resistance.”

Glover emphasized his loyalty to the PGA Tour, saying he’s poured over two decades into the game and doesn’t believe it’s fair for those who left to reclaim the same opportunities.

“They already made their decision. Let them live with it. Don’t let them take a slice of the pie from the kids coming up,” Glover said.
