Eagles First Camp Practice Turns Brutal for Marcus Tate
The Philadelphia Eagles wasted no time making roster moves as they opened training camp at the NovaCare Complex in South Philadelphia. Just hours into their first practice, the team released rookie offensive lineman Marcus Tate, who had signed with the team on June 2.
According to insider Jeff McLane, Tate began camp already injured, which left the coaching staff little choice. While unfortunate, this kind of move is common as teams look to optimize roster depth and camp intensity heading into the season’s final stretch.

Promising College Resume, Tough NFL Break
Tate entered the NFL with strong credentials. The 6-foot-5, 321-pound lineman started 37 games for the Clemson Tigers, including the 2021 season opener as a freshman. He also logged over 2,500 career snaps, joining a select group of just 28 Clemson players to do so.

They also signed DT Joe Evans, and waived/injured G Marcus Tate.
Primarily a left guard in college, Tate showed promise during Rookie Camp earlier this year, which earned him a short-term deal with the Eagles. Unfortunately, the timing of his injury killed any shot at proving himself during training camp.
The Eagles’ back-end roster is always in flux, with players often signed, evaluated, and cut within days. Tate’s college performance may keep him on the radar, whether for Philadelphia’s practice squad or another team in need of depth.
For now, his NFL future remains uncertain, but he’s not out of the race yet.
