Kris Wright Out at Our Motorsports After Disappointing Season
NASCAR driver Kris Wright is officially out at Our Motorsports, ending a tough run in the Xfinity Series. The team confirmed Wright’s departure ahead of this weekend’s race at Dover Motor Speedway, with Kaz Grala named as his replacement in the No. 5 Chevrolet.
Grala will take the wheel on July 19, but no other drivers have been announced for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Wright’s exit comes as no surprise to many in the garage. His 2025 campaign has been filled with frustration. Currently sitting 29th in the driver standings after 19 of 33 races. His best finish came months ago at Martinsville, where he landed a lone top-10 on March 29.
His most recent setback? Failing to qualify for the Chicago Street Course race on July 5. However, as a result, the No. 5 car has dropped to 36th in owner points. Dangerously close to being bumped from future races based on qualifying speeds.

Comparisons to Other Underperforming Drivers
Wright’s situation mirrors that of Hailie Deegan, who was released midseason by AM Racing in 2024 after similar struggles. Deegan had stepped into a ride once occupied by Brett Moffitt, who collected nine top-10s in 2023.
Wright took over the No. 5 from Anthony Alfredo, who posted seven top-10 finishes last year and placed 15th in the standings. Additionally expectations were high — results were not.
Furthermore, turning 31 this week, Wright boasts experience across multiple series, including 34 Xfinity starts and a 2018 IMSA LMP3 championship. But with no clear path forward and a shrinking window in a competitive field, his next opportunity may not come easily.
The focus now shifts to NASCAR Driver Grala and Our Motorsports. A pairing that hopes to salvage what’s left of a difficult season.
