Caitlin Clark ‘Grow up’ Message to WNBA Ref During Fever’s Win— ‘Disrespectful’ or ‘Passion’?

Caitlin Clark Sends Fiery Message to WNBA Ref During Fever-Sun Clash

Caitlin Clark didn’t hold back on Tuesday night and her fiery message to a referee is going viral.

With 4:33 left in the third quarter of the Indiana Fever’s showdown against the Connecticut Sun at TD Garden, an out-of-bounds review flipped possession in favor of Connecticut. Initially called Fever ball, the officials determined Natasha Howard had not touched it last, giving the Sun the ball instead.

Clark, clearly frustrated, had words with the referee as the play was under review. Cameras caught her shouting, “Grow up! Come here, come here! Unbelievable.”

Heated But Unpenalized

Despite the confrontation, Clark was not issued a technical foul — a surprise considering her reputation. An Indiana assistant coach briefly held her back to calm the situation.

This season, Clark has received two technical fouls in 13 games. In her rookie year, she racked up six — just one shy of suspension and tied for second-most in the WNBA. Her intense competitive spirit is no secret, and Tuesday’s exchange was yet another example.

Fever Staying Hot Before All-Star Break

Clark and the Fever are heating up at just the right time. Their victory over Connecticut improved their record to 11–10, marking a third straight win heading into All-Star Weekend.

Clark, now a two-time All-Star, continues to lead the league in assists while boosting the Fever’s playoff hopes. Despite shooting struggles earlier in the year, she’s maintained elite playmaking and leadership under pressure. Even when it spills over into drama with the refs.

Indiana has little time to rest. They face Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty on Wednesday night, wrapping up their pre-All-Star stretch.

One thing’s for sure: when Clark’s on the court, emotions run high and the spotlight follows.
