Former Red Sox Star Gets Robbed by Fan in Banana Ball Game

The Savannah Bananas brought their signature brand of chaotic fun, known as Banana Ball, to Fenway Park on Saturday. But not everyone left smiling.

Brock Holt, the former Red Sox utility man and 2018 World Series champion, was among several Boston legends who suited up for the event. Holt received a thunderous ovation as he made a theatrical entrance, walking through the crowd to the batter’s box in true Bananas fashion.

Then it happened.

Moments into his at-bat, Holt fouled off a pitch into the stands. Where a fan caught the ball. Under Banana Ball rules, a caught foul by a fan counts as an out.

The Fenway crowd instantly turned on the unlucky spectator, booing as Holt’s appearance was cut short in the most bizarre way.

Banana Ball Rules Spark Laughter and Groans

The viral moment showcased one of the many wild rules that make Banana Ball so unpredictable and entertaining. In addition to fan-caught outs, the league features dancing umpires, walk-off challenges, and trick plays. Hereby turning every game into a show.

Holt may have been robbed of a hit, but the stunt fit perfectly into the Bananas’ brand of fun-first baseball. The Fenway crowd may not have loved the outcome, but they got a one-of-a-kind moment from a Boston favorite.

One thing’s for sure: in Banana Ball, no one is safe from the chaos, not even a former World Series champ.
