MLB: Tigers Pitcher Joins the Elites in Groundbreaking Stats.

Tigers Ace Tarik Skubal Joins Koufax, Kershaw, and Randy Johnson in MLB History-Making Stats

Tarik Skubal isn’t just the ace of the Tigers; he’s building a legacy that puts him in the same breath as Sandy Koufax, Randy Johnson, and Clayton Kershaw.

On Sunday, the 27-year-old southpaw delivered another masterclass against the Cleveland Guardians, becoming just the fourth left-hander in MLB history to record three starts in a single season with zero runs, zero walks, and 10+ strikeouts. The elite list he joins includes Koufax (1965), Johnson (2004), and Kershaw (2015).

That performance wasn’t a one-off. Skubal is building on a breakout 2024 season that included a Cy Young Award, a pitching Triple Crown, and his first All-Star nod. He also led Detroit to its first playoff appearance in a decade, then backed it up with a 2.37 ERA across three postseason starts.

Most Dominant Lefty in 2025?

Through 12 starts in 2025, Skubal owns a 10–2 record with a 2.15 ERA and 138 strikeouts. Leading the American League in wins. Even more impressive, his WHIP and FIP are both lower than his Cy Young campaign, proving this isn’t a fluke. But it’s a full-on takeover.

The Tigers, riding Skubal’s left arm, sit atop the AL standings at 56–34 with a 12.5-game lead in the AL Central. With October in sight, Detroit is shaping up to be a legitimate World Series threat.

Skubal isn’t just pitching well, but rewriting history and bringing postseason baseball back to Motown in a big way.
