WNBA Refs Blasted After Angel Reese Failed Calls

Angel Reese continues to put up All-Star numbers for the Chicago Sky, but a growing number of fans believe WNBA officials are treating her unfairly.

In Sunday’s 80–75 loss to the Minnesota Lynx, Reese delivered another gritty performance with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Further extending her streak of double-doubles and solidifying her status as one of the league’s elite rebounders. But one stat stood out, and not in a good way. Despite taking 16 shots, all from the paint, Reese was awarded just two free throw attempts the entire game.

“She Gets Hacked Every Game”: Fans Sound Off

Social media erupted after the game, with fans calling out what they believe is a consistent pattern of poor officiating when it comes to the Sky forward. Many pointed to the physicality she faces under the basket. And questioned why the whistles never seem to come in her favor.

  • “Angel Reese must have the worst whistle in the WNBA. No excuse for the Sky loss, but come on,” one fan wrote.
  • “If the refs called it fair, she’d be averaging 20+ points a game,” added another.
  • “Refs treat Angel Reese like she’s too strong to foul. Just like they used to do with LeBron and Russ.”

The numbers seemed to support the outrage: Minnesota took 17 free throws, while Chicago attempted just eight. Reese, in particular, was repeatedly bumped in the lane but never seemed to get the benefit of the doubt.

Angel Reese Still Shines in the Spotlight

Even with the questionable officiating, Reese’s impact was undeniable. She once again anchored the Sky on both ends of the floor and nearly led them to a signature road win. Her rebounding dominance and hustle plays kept Chicago within striking distance, and her consistency continues to be a major bright spot in an otherwise up-and-down season.

Meanwhile, the Lynx leaned heavily on Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride, who combined for 46 points and hit key shots late to seal the win. The loss dropped Chicago’s record to 6–12, but with Reese performing at an elite level, the team still has hope for a second-half turnaround.

The Sky will look to bounce back Tuesday against the Washington Mystics, with tip-off set for 11:30 a.m. ET. Whether the officiating improves remains to be seen. But fans will certainly be watching, and so will Reese.
