WNBA Rookie Delivers Massive Block that Stunned Teammates

The WNBA spotlight was on Indiana Saturday night, not for a buzzer-beater, but for a jaw-dropping defensive play from one of the league’s newest faces. Rookie Makayla Timpson of the Indiana Fever sent the crowd and her teammates into a frenzy after a brutal block on Rickea Jackson of the Los Angeles Sparks.

With Caitlin Clark sidelined for a fifth straight game and Damiris Dantas away on national duty, the Fever were down to just nine active players. That opened the door for Timpson, the No. 19 overall pick out of Florida State, to make her presence felt, and she delivered.

Timpson’s Moment Sparks Fever Bench Reaction

Late in the first quarter, Jackson came off a screen with a clear path to the hoop. What looked like a sure two points turned into a viral highlight when Timpson soared in out of nowhere and rejected Jackson’s shot straight into the bench.

The Fever sideline exploded.

Even Aliyah Boston and Sophie Cunningham couldn’t hide their amazement, high-fiving the rookie as the crowd roared. Indiana’s official X account echoed the disbelief:
“Makayla Timpson GOT UP for this block 😳”

From Bench Warmer to Rotation Regular?

Before June 27, Timpson had logged just 14 minutes total across seven games. But with Indiana shorthanded, she’s stepped up during the team’s recent three-game win streak. And averaging 13 minutes, 1.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks per contest.

With Clark’s return timeline uncertain, Timpson’s energy and defense might just be what keeps the Fever competitive in the short term.

If Saturday night was any indication, she’s more than ready for the WNBA moment.
