Sabally Accused of Shading Caitlin Clark Over All-Star Selection
Caitlin Clark is officially an All-Star, and apparently, not everyone is thrilled.
Despite missing multiple games this season, the Indiana Fever phenom was named a 2025 WNBA All-Star Game starter, joining a lineup that includes A’ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier, Sabrina Ionescu, and Satou Sabally. But when Sabally hit the mic to discuss the snub of her Phoenix Mercury teammate Alyssa Thomas, her comments had fans convinced she took a veiled swipe at Clark.
Did Sabally Just Call Out Clark?
“I think she definitely should have been an All-Star starter,” Sabally said of Thomas. “I think there are a couple people who are All-Stars but not All-Star starters.”
That vague jab was enough to light a fire on social media. WNBA fans quickly speculated Sabally was referencing Clark without naming her. One fan tweeted, “The first comment would suffice without the second, but they have a lot to learn.” Another user added, “Maybe her fans should vote. Cry harder.”
Sabally went on to defend her position: “We’re second in the league and I feel like we’ve been underrated the whole time… For someone like AT to not be part of it, it just shows the system could be a little different.”
The All-Star Game voting system combines fan votes, player ballots, and media input. Thus, Clark’s inclusion reflects a widespread appeal, not just a popularity contest.
Though Clark has remained quiet on the controversy, she’ll have a home-court advantage when the WNBA All-Star Game tips off at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Whether Sabally’s comment was intended as a dig or not, the drama only adds fuel to what’s shaping up to be a must-watch showdown.
