Though she wasn’t in uniform Saturday, Paige Bueckers still managed to make her presence felt during the Dallas Wings’ matchup against the Washington Mystics.
Sidelined with a right knee issue, the rookie guard stayed locked into the game from the bench. But midway through the second quarter, Bueckers couldn’t contain her frustration with the officiating. Specifically a questionable foul call on her teammate NaLyssa Smith.
After the whistle blew, Bueckers immediately stood up, motioning with her arms in disbelief at the decision. The viral moment was caught on camera, showing the former UConn star clearly displeased as she defended her teammate from the sidelines.
Injury Update and WNBA Recent Performances
There’s no official word yet from the Wings on when Bueckers will return, but the team’s next game isn’t until Thursday, July 3, giving her a few days to recover.
Prior to this minor setback, Bueckers was coming off one of the most historic performances of her young WNBA career. In Friday’s game against the Indiana Fever, she dropped 27 points, grabbed five assists, and tallied two steals and two blocks, all while committing zero turnovers. No WNBA player had ever done that before in a single game.

Even from the bench, it’s clear Bueckers brings intensity, passion, and leadership. And when she’s back on the floor, expect more standout plays, and probably a few more animated reactions, too.
