Kyle Tucker Makes Big Cubs Admission Ahead of Free Agency

Kyle Tucker Has Two Key Priorities for His Future

As Kyle Tucker inches closer to free agency, the Chicago Cubs may have their work cut out if they hope to keep the star slugger around for the long haul. Two things will determine Tucker’s decision: money and winning.

Tucker spent the bulk of his career with the Houston Astros before landing in Chicago, where expectations are high. When asked about his mindset for the season and his feelings about playing for the Cubs, Tucker didn’t hold back.

“The ceiling is winning the World Series,” Tucker said on Cubs Live! “That was our goal coming into the season, going into spring training… We have a really good team. Hopefully we can all come together… and get that job done.”

Winning Matters More Than Hype

It’s clear that while a big contract offer will be critical, Tucker values being part of a competitive team. The Cubs are off to a strong start in 2025, and if that continues, they may have a real shot at convincing Tucker to stick around.

“If you don’t want to win games for these fans, I don’t see the point of showing up at the park,” he said. “We don’t want to just play and go home.”

What It Means for the Cubs’ Future

With Tucker producing at a high level and echoing a championship mindset, the Cubs may be closer than expected to retaining their All-Star outfielder. If Chicago’s front office can pair dollars with on-field success, there’s little reason to believe Tucker would look elsewhere.

For now, all eyes are on how far this Cubs team can go and whether Tucker’s belief in them leads to a long-term deal.
