The 13 Most Athletic Quarterbacks Ever

Some quarterbacks sling it. Then some quarterbacks look like they were built in a lab to dominate every combine drill and break every defensive scheme with their legs just as much as their arms.

This list is about the freaks. These guys thrived in multiple sports, pulled off plays that made your jaw drop, and blurred the line between quarterback and superhuman. Here are the 13 most athletic quarterbacks the game has ever seen.

13. Cam Newton

At his peak, Cam looked like a tight end who could outrun safeties and launch 60-yard bombs off his back foot. His size, speed, and strength were unfair for most defenders.

12. Colin Kaepernick

Before the NFL figured out how to defend him, Kaepernick was out there ripping 80-yard touchdown runs like a gazelle in cleats. His long stride and cannon arm made him one of the most dynamic threats of his era.

11. Anthony Richardson

Even in a short NFL sample, Richardson looks like the most athletic quarterback prospect we’ve ever seen. He’s a 6’4″, 244-pound freak who runs a 4.4 and can launch the ball 70 yards with a flick.

10. Randall Cunningham

Before athletic quarterbacks were a thing, Randall was out here hurdling tacklers and launching missiles. He brought a highlight-reel style to the position that paved the way for the modern dual-threat.

9. Vince Young

If you saw the 2006 Rose Bowl, you already know. Young ran like a wide receiver and made defenses look like they were moving slowly.

8. Kyler Murray

He moves like he’s on roller skates and throws a deep ball like he’s launching fireworks. Kyler’s size might not scream “athlete,” but his play does.

7. Josh Allen

Allen is built like a defensive end, hurdles dudes like it’s track and field, and easily launches moonballs. He’s the rare QB who might be underhyped as an athlete.

6. Jalen Hurts

Hurts is pure power and control in motion. Whether he’s bulling into the end zone or dropping dimes on the run, his athleticism is smooth and efficient.

5. Patrick Mahomes

Mahomes may not be the fastest or strongest, but his balance, body control, and off-platform throwing ability are otherworldly. He’s like a shortstop and point guard rolled into one.

4. Michael Vick

There was speed, and then there was Vick speed. He made NFL defenders look like JV players and changed the position forever.

3. Steve Young

Don’t let the Stanford degree and left-handed spiral fool you—Young could fly. He had a linebacker’s toughness with a running back’s vision.

2. Lamar Jackson

Lamar is a human joystick with turbo mode. His footwork, agility, and acceleration make him the closest thing to a video game glitch we’ve ever seen under center.

Elway had a rocket arm, elite footwork, and a baseball background, making everything look smooth. In terms of all-around athleticism for his era, no one could match what he brought to the field.
