Chicago Sky Facing Angel Reese Trade Decision After ACL Injury News

Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky are reeling early in the 2025 WNBA season. Following a 52–79 blowout loss to the Indiana Fever, their lowest point total since 2011, the team not only fell to 2-5 but also suffered a devastating blow: starting point guard Courtney Vandersloot tore her ACL and will miss the rest of the season.

Vandersloot had been one of the Sky’s few bright spots, averaging 12.0 points and 6.2 assists across six games. With her gone, Chicago’s backcourt depth looks alarmingly thin. Rookie Hailey Van Lith managed just seven points, zero assists, and three turnovers in 26 minutes. Moriah Jefferson, the team’s only veteran point guard, has yet to make her season debut due to a leg injury.

Angel Reese on the Trade Block?

According to Karli Bell, a Sky reporter, the team may need to sacrifice a marquee name to bring in an experienced floor general, specifically Angel Reese or Kamilla Cardoso.

“If the Sky wanted to go and get another point guard quickly, this is the fastest way to do it without taking a salary hit,” Bell wrote. “Both Reese & Cardoso are big names that draw in the fans and are absolutely big trade capital for the Sky.”

Bell floated the idea of a 2-for-1 trade, potentially involving Reese or Cardoso in exchange for two guards, or a guard and a wing. She named the Las Vegas Aces, Dallas Wings, Golden State Valkyries, Connecticut Sun, and Seattle Storm as teams that could entertain such a deal.

Production Dip Raises Questions

Angel Reese, a 2024 WNBA All-Star and All-Rookie selection, is averaging 9.1 points and 12.3 rebounds this season, down from her rookie marks of 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds. Meanwhile, Kamilla Cardoso has seen her scoring rise to 10.9 points, but her rebounding has dipped from 7.9 to 6.1 boards per game.

Both players are considered foundational to the Sky’s rebuild, but the urgency at point guard has forced the front office into a difficult crossroads.

With fan-favorite Reese potentially on the trade block, the next few days could redefine the Sky’s season, and their long-term future.
