Broncos’ Sean Payton Under Fire After Controversial Post Featuring Daughters Photo

The Denver Broncos are riding high after a playoff return and a promising new franchise QB in Bo Nix, but head coach Sean Payton is now facing unexpected backlash after posting a photo of his daughter, Meghan Payton, with the team’s second-round pick, RJ Harvey.

What was supposed to be a proud dad moment quickly spiraled into online chaos.

The Internet Doesn’t Play Nice

Within hours, the post had over 50,000 reactions, sparking memes, debates, and even NSFW replies. Many users were accusing Payton of unintentionally objectifying his daughter. While others blamed the overly sensitive culture of social media.

Still, some fans saw it as a harmless joke and defended the longtime coach. But in 2025’s hyper-connected and overanalyzed online world, even innocent family moments can go nuclear.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton turned viral

‘When your daughter likes your draft pick’

That was the caption Payton used alongside a photo of his daughter, a sports reporter, smiling next to RJ Harvey, the talented running back from UCF. But the phrasing struck many fans the wrong way. Especially in the unfiltered arena of social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The reactions came in fast and furious:

“Sean I know you meant well but this isn’t the app for this.”
“Coach this app will NOT see it the same way you do LOL.”
“As a dad, I don’t understand a dad posting this about their daughter.”
“Just inappropriate.”
“I advise you mute this tweet for your own sanity.”

Context Matters, But Social Media Doesn’t Care

This isn’t Sean Payton’s first brush with controversy, but it’s easily one of the most unexpected. The 60-year-old coach may have just been trying to celebrate two things he’s proud of: his daughter and a strong draft class. But fans weren’t having it.

With the Broncos poised for another competitive season under rising star Bo Nix, Payton will likely be focused on the field. But the internet doesn’t forget, and it definitely screenshots.
