George Pickens Finally Speaks Out After Blockbuster Cowboys Trade

The Dallas Cowboys’ hunt for a dynamic playmaker to complement CeeDee Lamb ended with a bold move. Trading for George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Known for his deep-threat ability, Pickens is just one year away from averaging 18.1 yards per catch and is coming off a 2024 campaign that saw him haul in 59 receptions for 900 yards and 3 touchdowns. Numbers made more impressive considering the Steelers’ inconsistent quarterback play and run-heavy scheme.

With Dak Prescott under center and Lamb drawing coverage, Pickens could be primed for a breakout year in a more aggressive, pass-heavy offense. His arrival gives Dallas one of the most exciting wide receiver duos in the NFC.

How Much Will George Pickens Boost the Dallas Cowboys’ Offense?

Pickens isn’t just content being a “number two” to Lamb. In his first public comments since the trade, he downplayed the idea of rankings or roles within the receiving corps

“You guys making a 1A and 1B and all this,” Pickens said via the Cowboys’ official website. “Honestly, that’s the first time I’ve heard of any of that stuff. I feel like two receivers are kind of normal. When I used to watch football, there was always a good receiver and then there was another good receiver on the side of him. I just feel like we’re going to work off each other very well.”

That confidence is exactly what Dallas needs. While Lamb is firmly established as one of the league’s top weapons, having a true threat opposite him like Pickens. He opens up the field and forces opposing defenses to choose their poison.

Teams like the Eagles, Vikings, and Bengals have already shown how powerful a true WR1-WR2 combo can be in today’s NFL. Pickens believes he and Lamb can form a similarly explosive duo.

“He creates big mismatches,” a rival NFC executive told reporters. “Dak is going to love him in the deep passing game.”

Whether Pickens becomes the statistical leader or not, his presence is already shaking up expectations in Dallas. With a chip on his shoulder and plenty to prove, Pickens might just be the missing piece that helps push the Cowboys deeper into the playoffs.
