Philadelphia Eagles Close to Deal to Keep $57 Million Playmaker in Jalen Hurts’ Arsenal

With OTAs looming, the Philadelphia Eagles are taking steps to retain one of their most valuable offensive weapons in the fold for 2025. Tight end Dallas Goedert, the target of trade rumors during the NFL offseason, is close to signing a contract extension with the Eagles, keeping him on board as a key component in Jalen Hurts’ support group.

Goedert’s Potential Contract Extension

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane, the Eagles and Goedert, 30, are attempting to renegotiate his contract. Goedert, entering the last year of a four-year, $57 million contract, was set to carry more than $11.74 million on the cap in 2025. That looming cost had caused many to wonder if the Eagles might seek to trade the former second-round pick, who guided them to the Super Bowl last season.

But with around $24.8 million of cap space available, the Eagles would probably seek to rework Goedert’s contract to give them more flexibility for next season. They can save some financial space but retain a key contributor such as Goedert.

Why Keeping Dallas Goedert Matters for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles

Despite the 2022 signing of dynamic wide receiver A.J. Brown, Goedert remained the Eagles’ top offensive player. Having him on the team gives Jalen Hurts one more reliable target to throw to, joined by Brown, DeVonta Smith, and the addition of Saquon Barkley, making the Eagles’ offense one of the most intimidating in the league.

In 2024, Goedert caught 42 passes for 496 yards and two touchdowns in just 10 games. A knee injury reduced his production and placed him on injured reserve for the final four games. Still, Goedert’s value to the team is clear. Keeping him on the roster gives Jalen Hurts one of the NFL’s most versatile weapons.

Keeping Goedert also provides stability to the Eagles’ high-powered offense. The team already boasts a top offensive line, elite receivers, and a dynamic running back. As Jalen Hurts continues to grow into one of the league’s best quarterbacks, having a reliable target like Goedert is crucial.

The Eagles make a habit of locking up key players they view as essential for long-term success. Goedert seems to be one of those core pieces. With an extension looming, the Eagles will keep their offensive juggernaut intact, and Jalen Hurts will have everything he needs to lead the team to another successful season. As the Eagles are a strong contender to win the NFL trophy again.
