NFL Coach Praises Buffalo Bills’ Draft: ‘Two Tough MFers’ and a Star Cornerback

Buffalo Bills Go All-In on Defense in 2025 NFL Draft

The Buffalo Bills made one thing clear during the 2025 NFL Draft: They’re not satisfied with just being close. After falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in a 32-point shootout during the AFC Championship Game, the Bills used the draft to address glaring defensive weaknesses — and they did it with authority.

According to one unnamed NFC coach, no team executed their draft strategy more effectively than Buffalo.

“Buffalo went all in on defense,” the coach said. “They got a great cornerback, and two tough [expletive] on the defensive line.”

This praise wasn’t just lip service. The Bills landed several defensive prospects who not only fit their long-term blueprint but also have the physical tools to make an immediate impact.

Maxwell Hairston Headlines a Gritty Defensive Class

The most buzz-worthy pick was cornerback Maxwell Hairston out of Kentucky. A true ball hawk with elite instincts, Hairston is expected to compete for a starting role right out of the gate. His ability to play both zone and man coverage will add versatility to Buffalo’s secondary. A group that struggled in critical moments against elite offenses.

But the Bills didn’t stop there. They added defensive tackle T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker, two interior linemen known for their brute strength and disruptive presence in the trenches. Both players bring high motors, toughness, and the ability to plug gaps or collapse pockets — exactly what Buffalo needs against top-tier quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow.

Additionally, edge rusher Landon Jackson was a savvy pickup, giving the Bills another tool off the edge. He’ll join forces with Joey Bosa, a major free agency addition, to create what could be a fearsome pass-rush duo.

Buffalo Closes the Gap on the Chiefs

With the additions of these defensive stalwarts, the Bills seem determined to finally get over the hump. GM Brandon Beane clearly drafted with the mindset of not just keeping up in the AFC arms race — but pulling ahead.

Buffalo came within two wins of the Super Bowl, and this draft could be what tips the scales. They didn’t chase flashy picks. They built from the trenches, reinforced the back end, and doubled down on toughness — all traits that win playoff games in January.

If these rookies live up to the billing, don’t be surprised if the Bills find themselves right back in the AFC title game. Only this time, they might not come up short.
