Every college football season kicks off with a fresh batch of hype—preseason polls, glossy media guides, and bold declarations about who’s “back.” And while some teams live up to the buzz, others crash and burn before the leaves even start to fall.

Whether it was because of returning starters, flashy recruits, or a new coaching hire, these teams were supposed to be national contenders. Instead, they fell flat and became cautionary tales about believing the preseason hype too quickly.
