The X Games are known for their extreme competitive, and oftentimes dangerous, games. While it’s true that the X Games excels at protecting the athletes, these competitions do come with risks!
These are the 15 most dangerous Winter X Games. Some of these are no longer allowed.
Snowmobile Freestyle
Riders perform wild tricks on snowmobiles while flying through the air. They do backflips, no-handed jumps, and other crazy stunts. It’s super risky because these machines are heavy and hard to control mid-air.
Ski Big Air
Skiers zoom down a huge ramp and launch themselves high into the sky. They twist, flip, and spin before landing. The height and speed make this event super dangerous if something goes wrong.
Snowboard Big Air
Just like Ski Big Air, but on a snowboard. Riders fly off a massive jump and do mind-blowing tricks. The risk of wiping out from way up high makes this event seriously scary.
Snowboard SuperPipe
Snowboarders race up and down the walls of a giant half-pipe, doing flips and spins. The icy walls are super tall, so falling from the top can really hurt.
Ski SuperPipe
Skiers show off their best tricks in a huge half-pipe. They go really fast and fly really high. One wrong move, and they could crash hard on the icy pipe walls.
Snowboardcross
Multiple snowboarders race down a twisty course at the same time. There are jumps, turns, and bumps everywhere. With everyone so close together, crashes and wipeouts happen a lot.
Skicross
This is like Snowboardcross, but on skis. Skiers race each other down a crazy obstacle course. It’s super fast and crowded, which means there’s a big chance of crashing into other racers.
Slopestyle (Ski and Snowboard)
Riders go down a course full of jumps, rails, and obstacles. They have to do cool tricks on each feature. There are lots of chances to fall or crash while trying to impress the judges.
Snowmobile Best Trick
Riders get one chance to do their most insane trick on a snowmobile. They often try dangerous flips and spins. If something goes wrong, it can be really bad because snowmobiles are so heavy.
Moto X Best Trick
This used to be in the Winter X Games. Riders did crazy motorcycle jumps and tricks over snow. The combination of powerful bikes and slippery snow made this event super dangerous.
Snowmobile HillCross
Snowmobile racers zoom up a steep, bumpy hill. They go super fast and catch big air off jumps. The speed and the uneven ground make crashes pretty common.
Ice Climbing
This event doesn’t happen anymore. Climbers raced up tall walls of ice using special tools. It was dangerous because of the height and the slippery ice. One wrong move could mean a big fall.

Speed Skiing
Another discontinued event where skiers went as fast as possible down a steep hill. They reached crazy speeds, sometimes over 150 mph! At those speeds, any mistake could be really serious.

Super Modified Shovel Racing
This weird event only happened once. People raced down a snowy hill on suped-up snow shovels. It was super fast and hard to control, which made it really dangerous.

Snow Mountain Biking
Riders raced mountain bikes down snowy slopes. The combo of snow, speed, and jumps made this event pretty risky. It was only in the X Games for a short time because it was so dangerous.
