The Quick Report

The Best and Worst Tailgating Experiences in the NFL

Tailgating is an essential part of football culture, bringing fans together for food, drinks, and camaraderie before kickoff. For many, the pre-game festivities are just as important as the action on the field. However, not all NFL stadiums provide the same tailgating atmosphere, with some offering legendary experiences and others falling short.

From iconic parking lot parties to stadiums with strict restrictions, the quality of tailgating varies widely across the league. Some venues are known for their incredible fan traditions, while others leave much to be desired. Let’s rank every NFL stadium’s tailgating experience from worst to best.

30. Levi’s Stadium (San Francisco 49ers)

Openverse

Sorry to all the 49ers fans out there. While Levi’s Stadium might be state-of-the-art, its tailgating scene leaves much to be desired. With limited parking and strict rules, the atmosphere feels subdued compared to other stadiums.

29. SoFi Stadium (Los Angeles Rams/Chargers)

Openverse

SoFi Stadium is an incredible place to watch a football game, but it does fall short on the tailgating aspect. The urban setting and restricted tailgating zones make it challenging for fans to recreate the classic pregame vibe.

28. MetLife Stadium (New York Giants/Jets)

Openverse

Despite being home to two teams, MetLife Stadium’s tailgating scene lacks creativity and energy. The vast parking lots feel sterile, and the high cost of parking doesn’t help.

27. Gillette Stadium (New England Patriots)

Openverse

While there’s no question that Patriots fans are passionate, Gillette Stadium’s location in Foxborough limits its tailgating potential. The lack of nearby attractions and strict rules dampen the pregame spirit.

26. Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta Falcons)

Openverse

Known for its affordable concessions, Mercedes-Benz Stadium falls short on tailgating. And, because it’s in a more urban location, there’s not a lot of space for the traditional tailgate atmosphere.

25. Ford Field (Detroit Lions)

Openverse

Ford Field’s downtown location means there are limited opportunities for tailgating. Fans often congregate at nearby bars instead of hosting classic parking lot parties. And you know what? Some fans prefer that!

24. State Farm Stadium (Arizona Cardinals)

Openverse

State Farm Stadium offers some tailgating, but the desert heat can make the experience uncomfortable (especially early on in the season). There’s no question the fans are passionate, but it‘s not as good as some other places.

23. Soldier Field (Chicago Bears)

Openverse

Sorry Chicago, but Soldier Field’s historic charm doesn’t extend to its tailgating scene. Parking is limited, and the urban setting makes it hard to host large gatherings.

22. Lucas Oil Stadium (Indianapolis Colts)

Openverse

Lucas Oil Stadium’s tailgating scene is decent but doesn’t stand out. Plus, the stadium is near bars and restaurants, which is where most fans spend their time pre-game.

21. Paycor Stadium (Cincinnati Bengals)

Openverse

Paycor Stadium’s tailgating scene is solid but not exceptional. While the location near the river adds a nice touch, it’s not enough to elevate it higher.

20. TIAA Bank Field (Jacksonville Jaguars)

Openverse

TIAA Bank Field offers a decent tailgating experience, as fans definitely take advantage of the warm Florida weather. However, it doesn’t quite compare to the league’s best.

19. AT&T Stadium (Dallas Cowboys)

Openverse

AT&T Stadium is more about the spectacle than the tailgating. Fans have options, but the stadium’s focus on luxury detracts from the traditional parking lot experience.

18. NRG Stadium (Houston Texans)

Openverse

NRG Stadium offers a good tailgating scene for Texans fans, but it lacks the iconic atmosphere of the top contenders.

17. Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Dolphins)

Openverse

Hard Rock Stadium benefits from its tropical location, but the tailgating scene is more laid-back than raucous. Sure, the fans enjoy themselves, but it’s not quite at an elite level.

16. M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore Ravens)

Openverse

Ravens fans are passionate, so it should come as no surprise that M&T Bank Stadium offers a solid tailgating experience. Not to mention, the nearby Inner Harbor provides additional entertainment options for fans.
