Just because someone loves Halloween, does not mean that they automatically love horror movies. Here is a list of movies you can watch during spooky season that won’t freak you out too much.
Teen Witch
This movie was supposed to be like Teen Wolf but for girls. Teen Witch is a cheesy 80’s time capsule that tells the story of Louise Miller, a shy nerdy girl who yearns for the most popular boy at her school. She learns that she’s a witch and uses her powers to become popular and beautiful. The writing is vapid and the plot is weak, but the performances are endearing. This movie also has the cringiest rap scene ever put on film. Top that!
When Good Ghouls Go Bad
Some made-for-tv movies are trash. But some are hidden treasures. And this film is the latter. The concept of the film was created by the master of horror himself, R.L. Stine. This film follows the story of a boy who lives in a town that doesn’t celebrate Halloween because they are afraid of a decades old curse. With the help of his new friends, his undead grandpa, and a horde of zombies, he brings Halloween back to the town.
The Little Vampire
Between the gorgeous Scottish landscape and the Scottish accents, this film is a treat for the eyes and the ears. This movie tells the story of an American boy named Tony whose family moves to Scotland. He has trouble fitting in until he befriends a 500 year old child vampire named Rudolph. Together the boys embark on a mission to help Rudolph and his family become human.
The Frighteners
This movie can be classified as a baby’s-first-horror movie. There are scary moments in it, but the scares are tame enough to make the more timid viewers feel brave while watching them. The movie tells the story of a psychic con artist who teams up with a recent widow to stop a murderous ghost who is terrorizing his hometown. This horror comedy is a little cheesy at times, but it has a lot of heart.
Corpse Bride
Tim Burton truly shines when he is bringing fairytales to life. His best films all have a dark whimsical quality to them and Corpse Bride epitomizes whimsy. The film follows a man who finds himself accidentally married to an undead woman when he is already engaged to a living woman. This ghastly love triangle sets the stage for a witty tale of love and betrayal.
Casper
This may be a ghost movie, but it’s a friendly ghost movie. This family friendly romp is chock full jokes, heartwarming moments, and celebrity cameos. It follows the story of a young girl who befriends a ghost after moving to a new town. Together they try to stop a greedy woman from stealing a treasure that is hidden somewhere in her new home.
Hocus Pocus
Come on, we all knew that this film was going to be on the list right? Though this movie can be a bit cheesy, it’s nonetheless entertaining and iconic. It follows three kids on Halloween who accidentally resurrect three evil witches, the Sanderson sisters, on Halloween night. Viewers will love the Three-Stooges-esque comedy provided by the witches and they will be charmed by the underlying message of the importance of family
Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! This movie has everything. Romance, horror, comedy, and a Harry Belafonte musical number. This is a horror movie that you can watch with your kids. It’s fun for the whole family. Viewers will adore the overdramatic yet relatable Lydia Deetz and the hilariously sleazy Beetlejuice.
Yes, I know that’s not how he really spells his name. But no one can pronounce it the other way.

Addams Family
Tim Burton gets a lot of credit for providing the world with several movies that can be enjoyed during the spooky season. But Barry Sonnefeld deserves some of that credit as well because he gave us the 1991 film Addams Family. This film follows the iconic macabre family as they are visited by a man claiming to be their long lost Uncle Fester. The movie is filled with wacky hijinks, hilariously dark jokes, and family values. And speaking of family values…

Addams Family Values
Barry Sonnenfeld gave us not one but two iconic Addams Family films. And to be honest? This is one of the few times where the sequel is better than the original. The film revisits our favorite wholesomely gothic family as they go up against a gold-digging murderess and deranged camp counselors. This film can also double as a Thanksgiving film. IYKYK!
