10. Beautiful Creatures
This movie is a lot better than people give it credit for. Though this is by no means the best film in the list, it’s still a fun watch. This film follows a young witch (or caster, as they like to call themselves) as she tries to find a balance between the light and dark aspects of her personality.
Give the movie a chance. It’s a little cheesy but the magical scenes are fun and it has a sweet ending.
9. Season of the Witch (1972)
We all remember George A. Romero’s zombie films. But not many people know that he wrote and directed a witch film. This movie follows the story of a beleaguered housewife who learns to harness the power of witchcraft to free herself from her maddeningly monotonous life. This movie walked so that The Love Witch could run.
8. Into the Dark: Pure
This movie follows the story of Shay, who is a bit of an outsider in the world that she is thrust into. But by claiming her own power, she is able to seek justice for herself and her community. Shay reminds us that if you can’t be a social justice warrior, be a social justice witch!
7. The Witch
I know this film is called The Witch but because of the spelling on the movie poster I always want to call it The Va Vitch! This is probably the darkest and scariest movie on the list. It tells the story of a family who is exiled from their community and tormented by the witch in the woods. The movie is unsettling, but strangely empowering.
6. The Craft
The Craft may be one of the most iconic films on this list. It tells the story of a group of high school girls who use witchcraft to get what they want. But along the way the power goes to their heads. This film does not portray modern witchcraft in the most accurate light, but it’s a more accurate representation than most witch movies of its time.
5. Love Witch
This film is a problematic fave! The Love Witch follows the story of Elaine Parks, a witch who is obsessed with the idea of love. So obsessed that she uses love magick to seduce men. But her seduction has fatal consequences. Come for the gorgeous set and costume design but stay for the over-the-top acting and subtle satire. You may have to watch this film a few times to catch onto the satire.
4. Kiki’s Delivery Service
We all remember this delightful Hayao Miyazaki coming-of-age film from our childhoods. It tells the story of a young witch named Kiki who has set out on her own to find her special skill. Along the way she gains confidence in herself by making friends and starting a delivery service.
3. Bedknobs and Broomsticks
What could be better than a film where Angela Lansbury plays a witch? A film where Angela Lansbury plays a sword-wielding, Nazi-fighting witch. This movie tells the story of a novice witch who takes in three children during WWII. She learns magic from tomes she orders through the mail and uses her abilities to fight the axis powers.

2. Practical Magic
The movie gets slightly dark in certain parts, but is mainly a wholesome watch. The film tells the story of two witch sisters who reconnect and use their familial magic and sisterly connection to fight off a sinister force that is haunting them. Witchy viewers will enjoy watching the magical Owens family perform their spells and rituals. And they will also appreciate the sweet bond between the two main characters.

1. Hocus Pocus
Come on, we all knew that this film was going to get the number one spot on the list right? Though this movie can be a bit cheesy, it’s nonetheless entertaining and iconic. It follows three kids on Halloween who accidentally resurrect three evil witches, the Sanderson sisters, on Halloween night. Viewers will love the three-stooges-esque comedy provided by the witches and they will be charmed by the underlying message of the importance of family.
