The Quick Report

10 Must-Watch Movies for Leo Season

We are smack dab in the middle of Leo season! Let’s keep this party going with a list of movies the lions will love!

10. Sleepwalkers

Brian Krause and Madchen Amick from Sleepwalkers
Ion Pictures/Victor & Grais Productions

Leos will like Sleepwalkers because the main antagonists are giant cats… sort of. They are like evil cat demons… who hate actual cats? So, they’re self-hating cats, I guess. I won’t pretend like I am able to follow Stephen King’s logic. But Leos will also like this movie because all of the main characters are incredibly attractive. Even when their faces do that weird were-cat thing.

9. Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood

Leos may identify with all of the bombastic Ya-Ya sisters, but they will definitely identify with the Ya-Ya Queen Vivian “Vivi” Joan Abbot Walker. Like a Leo, Vivi has star quality and she tends to take up all of the space in a room. She is also temperamental and stubborn. But also like the fixed fire sign, she has a warm heart, though she seldom knows how to show it. This film has some dark themes. If you choose to watch it, practice self-care while viewing.

8. Teen Witch

Trans World Entertainment

This film is the ultimate Leo wish fulfillment fantasy. Louise embodies the fixed fire sign by using her magical abilities to be the most popular girl in school. In true Leo fashion, she is generous with her magical abilities and loves theatre. Also in the middle of the movie, there is a nonsensical musical number called “I Like Boys” that I feel like the flirtatious Leos will appreciate.

7. Dirty Dancing

Great American Films

Leo’s are known to be fantastic performers. I certainly would not be surprised if the late great Patrick Swayze’s character Johnny was a Leo or had Leo somewhere in his chart. In real life, Patrick Swayze had his sun, moon, and Mercury signs in Leo. So this role was perfect for him.

6. The Birdcage

Birdcage
United Artists/Nichols Film Company

This film tells the story of a young man trying to impress his fiancée’s stuffy, conservative family by hiding the fact that he was raised by two dads. But thankfully, he learns that a loving family is nothing to be ashamed of. Leos will enjoy Nathan Lane’s bombastic and theatrical character and they will also love the warm-hearted message of the film.

5. Mean Girls

Sorry Regina, Leos are too fetch to care what you think. This film tells the story of a teen girl named Cady who enters a new high school after years of being homeschooled in Africa. There she meets, befriends, dethrones, and replaces the school’s most popular girl! Leos will want to root for both of the Queen Bees.

4. Lion King

Lion KIng
Walt Disney Feature Animation

I can’t write a movie list for Leo and NOT include Lion King!  Leos are represented by the Lion, so you know they will love watching this retelling of Hamlet. If you enjoy the first Lion King, you should check out Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride and Lion King 1 ½. They are the best Disney sequels.

3. Sunset Boulevard

Sunset Boulevard
Paramount Pictures

If Norma Desmond is not a Leo, I will eat my shoe and the foot to go with it. Gloria Swanson, the iconic actress who portrayed her, was not a Leo, but she was an Aries with a Sagittarius ascendant. So that’s pretty close. Leos will love this film that tells the story of an aging larger-than-life actress who is trying to make her comeback in Hollywood.

2. Rocky Horror Picture Show

Rocky Horror Picture Show
20th Century Fox

Frank N. Furter is a mad scientist but he should be a star! He brings so much Leo energy to this zany send up of old science fiction films. Only a Leo would turn people into stone so they could be meticulously staged for a grand floor show. Remember Leos. Don’t dream it. Be it.

1. White Christmas

White Christmas
Paramount Pictures

Christmas may be quite a few months away but we can still include this movie on the list This holiday classic about romance and showbiz is perfect for our theatrical lion. The rousing musical numbers, fantastic costumes, and breathtaking set design will have all of the Leos dreaming of a White Christmas. I can imagine the fixed fire signs singing “Sisters” in those fabulous dresses.
